Sounding Out Words, Rhyme, and Wrapping up Dr. Seuss Month

We have been busy this month with lots of literacy learning!

One daily activity we do is Where's That Sound?

I read out a word from my word list. Students put the letter where they hear it in the word: at the beginning, in the middle, or at the end of the word.

Today we did letter V. Here's my word list: 

The chart has Velcro dots to make it easy to switch out the letters.

It works great for making CVC words too!

We did lots of literacy activities using Dr. Seuss books this month too!

We started with Dr. Seuss's ABC, since it is all about the alphabet, alphabetical order, uppercase and lowercase letters, letter sounds, and words that begin with the letters. All jam-packed into one book!

We practiced initial sounds...

and ending sounds

Next we read Hop on Pop, to get our in our practice with rhyming skills. We sorted words that rhyme with pop/don't rhyme with pop

and we made some of our own rhymes too. 

We did this with The Cat in the Hat, with a cut and paste activity.

We played "Rhyming Bridge is Falling Down".

This is the same as London Bridge is falling down, except that when the 'rhyming bridge' lands on you, you are stuck until you come up with a pair of rhyming words. Too fun!

We used Jessica's CVC pack to make words using magnets

and did the corresponding worksheets for extra practice.

We are using my pack to S-T-R-E-T-C-H out words, bubble gum style!

We used letter tiles and magnetic letters to stretch out the sounds of these CVC words.

We sorted words by vowel, putting the gumballs in the correct gumball machines!

We sorted out real words and silly words on the pocket chart.

It includes CVC, CCVC, and CVCC word learning!
